  • Going on a long trip can be an easy task when you prepare correctly.

     

    Here are seven tips to help your trip be a memorable one!

    1. Car Maintenance. Make sure to take your car in to get an oil change and have your tires rotated before you leave.

    2. Plan ahead. Pack a cooler with lots of water and healthy snacks, ahead of time. This allows you to keep driving so you do not have to stop at gas stations all the time and end up buying unhealthy choices.

    3. Provide easy to make food that last. A few examples are hard boiled eggs, PB&Js, bananas, meat and cheese crackers, and tuna or chicken sandwiches. If you like apples, bring those, they give the same amount of energy as one cup of coffee without the crash. 

    4. Emergency supplies. Always prepare for the worst case scenario. Pack an extra blanket, pillow, extra clothes, flashlight, car charger, cables, and a first aid kit. 

    5. Know Your Route. Don't fully rely on GPS to lead you, because you might lose signal. The best thing to do is download or print out your map. Also check out other paths, there might be a more enjoyable path that takes only a little extra time. 

    6.  Sleep well the night before. Driving tired starts your trip off on a dangerous foot.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that drowsy driving was responsible for 72,000 crashes, 44,000 injuries, and 800 deaths in 2013. However, these numbers are underestimated and up to 6,000 fatal crashes each year may be caused by drowsy drivers.

    7. Have fun! Download your favorite music especially if you are going on a route that has no service.

    Enjoy your journey, sometimes it is the trip that is more memorable than the destination.
